Add this to the NO Star list September 1, 2008 I should have read some of these comments before I ordered my Salter 9009 scale on 7/8/07. I paid the inflated price plus extra shipping costs to Hawaii; it malfunctioned soon after received and was returned to Salter on 10/12/07 with a letter explaining the problems, costing another bundle to ship it to New Mexico from Hawaii. A replacement was received some time later, but by 4/25/08 it was again malfunctioning (a leg stuck and I suddenly weighed 100 pounds less--nice!). Since there is no phone number to call for assistance or advice, I tried their internet site and left a request on their "response form" with my email address on 4/27/08. It's four months later--and still no reply. In logging onto their web site for the last week the site has been "down" for updating. Perhaps that's been since 6/08 when another responder had the same problem. My Salter scale is now sitting on a pile of obsolete electronics to be recycled. Perhaps it's time for the company to be up-dated or recycled. I, for one, will never consider purchasing a Salter product ever again!
Poor quality and not even close to accurate... August 20, 2008 I purchased the product and am quite disappointed.
As noted- it is very flimsy plastic and feels like it is bending in half when used.
It is impossible to get accurate readings from the scale- there is often a *5 POUND* variance between consecutive weigh-ins. You have to weigh yourself multiple times and average the results to even get a clue which number is accurate.
I have even tested it with known quantity cast iron weights and found it to be off.
I purchased it becasue of the Salter name brand. I will not make that mistake again. I have since replaced this unit with another brand of scale.
Nice, but not for us! August 4, 2008 This is a nice scale. The thing I like about it most is how it looks. I don't however, recommend this scale for persons over 300lbs (despite the 400lb capacity). I weigh under 300lbs, and it worked okay for me. However, when used by someone over 300, it creaked and cracked when stepped on, and did not give an accurate weight.
defective? June 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The digital number at the far right is already partially disappearing in less than one month of home use. I tried to contact the company via their web site and it says their website is temporarily unavailable due to essential updates. I was initially impressed with the product but I am wondering how long the other numbers will show up. The instruction manual says that the scale has a lithium battery installed to provide extra long energy life for the scale and that under heavy usage such as a health club that the batteries may eventually need to be replaced. I gave this as a gift to my father on 6/7/08 and it already is showing a problem. (6/28/08)
Pretty good scale June 28, 2008 I needed a scale with 400 pound weight capacity for a family member in kidney dialysis. This fits the bill, but it is extremely thin and light weight. I was worried that the housing would not stand up, and yet it has with no problems. I can't get it to jive with a doctor'ds scale, but it falls within 2-7 pounds difference (depends on which doctor's scale). All in all, for the money it's worth it.
